I do love the descriptions of the floor throughout the entire story. Such strong emotion attached to something that isn't given a thought in everyday life.
His eyes were examining the parquet flooring in front of Jack’s fireplace. Smooth, and gleaming softly in the firelight. Delightful to look at. Warm and inviting. Much like Jack himself, really.

So touching.
