I had a look at the links, but am still being stupid. What is the reason for this 3WDW? I am not making game of you. I really do not understand.

It's the second annual celebration of when Dreamwidth moved from closed to open beta. It's meant to get people talking, get communities more active, produce more content of all sorts on individual journals.

And part of it is the idea that anything a person posts and tags (three weeks for dreamwith) as part of the Fest should not be crossposted (to LJ or anywhere else) for three weeks from the posting date.

For example, if I write three fics in the next few weeks, I might tag one of them 'three weeks' and not crosspost it to LJ for a while, but the other two fics I might decide aren't for the Fest and I'll crosspost them as usual.

Tagging some posts and following the Latest Things tag just encourages more interaction. Random strangers can become new friends if you stumble across their post and find something to chat about. :-)

Here's the introductory post in the Three Weeks community that will explain it better and answer questions down in the comments. It's from last year but it's been updated for 2011.

I don't think it is anything for me though, as I tend not to get enthusiastic about either LJ or DW....and will I actually want to meet new people?

I found a 3w4dw entry of someone talking about Diana Villiers! Someone who read the books only for Sophie and Diana and skipped over all the Jack and Stephen bits. Just imagine!

It's a strange world we live in....

Well, I don't know that they were shipping them, just more interested in what's happening ashore with the ladies than all the seafaring testosterone-laden happenings!

I tend to agree. I doubt if Mr. O'Brian would be gratified to have only half each of his books read!

Much as I like to read Mr O'Brian, Miss Austen does the ashore side so much better. :D
