I don't expect to get much useful done between now and year-end, so prompt me!

Jack/Daniel is default mode, but I'm down for gen or alternate pairings. You'll receive at least 100 words.

Winter themes, Christmas, New Year's are all seasonally appropriate, but anything goes. Well, maybe not death!fic. This time around. ;-)

Sha'uri, desert in starlight

Like Grains of Sand (a double drabble set just before "Secrets")

The night air of Abydos, especially out here away from the walls of the city, was what Danyel had called 'crisp.' Shau'ri halted, gathering her cloak more tightly about her. He had described to her how weather could be so cold, so 'crisp', that water turned hard and soft rain turned to flakes of white. She had believed him, but could not imagine such things, child of the desert that she was.

Her demon had seen them, though. Shau'ri had seen the memory. She could picture ground whiter than sand, hear the crunching sound of footfalls, feel the white rain sting her cheeks.

Against the black sky, the glittering stars looked as cold as specks of hard water, although Danyel had assured her that they were in truth as hot as the sun of Abydos. Shivering, Shau'ri turned her back to the brilliant cluster of specks marking the place she knew the monster Apophis to be, and sought out the star called Sol that lit Danyel's home world.

When morning came, Kasuf would have the chappa'ai uncovered. Danyel would come. If he lived, he would come.

Her hands covered her stomach. He would come, and he would see. What then?

Lovely. I feel for her here, but at least she'll have some time with Daniel, and she's herself for now.

*nods* We have to be grateful for any small respite she had. It's good that she's been able to spend time with Kasuf, too. (And Skaara, we can assume.)

that was beautiful! I am so sorry I did not see this before now - am blaming the way yahoo's upgrade folders my things up in a way I no longer see them unless I remember to tab it out. I do love the imagery you have used here, particularly hot/cold. Really neat!

I know there have to be alternate universes where Shau'ri and her Danyel had their happy ending, but I'm with Teal'c. Ours is the only universe that counts, and it's so sad... *sniffs*
