I was watching an episode of The Donna Reed Show from 1960. I watched the end credits and saw that it had been written by a man named John Whedon!

And one of the characters was named Buffie.

Coincidence?!?!?!?!?

Yes. But not entirely. He's Joss's grandfather. *G*

I had another weird time travel experience watching an old b&w half-hour show a while ago. It was an ep of Wyatt Earp from 1957, I think, and I saw a familiar name in the cast list at the end. Susan Seaforth, who spent decades on Days of our Lives as Julie Olson Williams, married her leading man (Bill Hayes, of The Ballad of Davy Crockett fame), and was one of the Young and the Restless actors on a celebrity cruise I took with my mother.

I rewatched the ep to see if I would recognize 13-year-old Susan this time around (and absolutely did! So many familiar expressions and head tilts), and during one of her scenes with the series star, Hugh O'Brian, I was suddenly dumbstruck by the fact that I had seen both of them in person. Susan I actually met and spoke to and got an autograph and photo with on the cruise, and Hugh I saw on stage starring in Cactus Flower when I was living in Indianapolis.

And here they were, together, in 1957. And me watching in 2014. :-D

I love all that interconnectedness! And getting to see the young-adult version of someone you knew later on, as a grownup, is even more like time travel. In a period piece, too, to add another layer of historicity. The Twilight Zone is a great place to run across familiar actors when they were young, and then you get the 'ooo-eee-ooo' effect, but not the old-timeyness. And it's charming that so many of Susan Seaforth's mannerisms were the same!

Hugh O'Brian is one handsome dude omg.

(Oh how funny -- I was thinking back to when I found out that Nathan Fillion had been a character I knew on One Life to Live, and I didn't make the connection when I met him in the Jossverse, only realized it when I read something about his previous work. And there's your icon!)

I most probably saw Nathan on OLTL as well, although I don't think I was watching it quite as regularly at that point as I once did. I've met him now, too, of course, plus that dude that played Dr. Jeff on General Hospital. I forget his name... *G*

I wasn't watching OLTL regularly anymore by the nineties either, but I tuned in every now and then, and was always amazed at how familiar everything was. I could be away for years, dip back in, and feel immediately right at home.

Dr. Jeff scenes would be a fun clip hunt to go on. Baby!Jack! Even babier!Jack than Mac! D'awwwwww ...
