Seeking help with New Year's resolution

I'm going to make a serious effort to write more this year. Finish up my WIPs, explore old bunnies, sign up for ficathons, do Five Things things. I've made a pledge over at [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout to write 150k words in 2011. I have no idea if I'm going to manage it - but I do know one way you folks can help me, if you're so inclined.

If you hate commentfic, stop reading right here. *g*

As of today I am watching both LJ's [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic and DW's [community profile] fic_promptly. If you are the sort of person who would enjoy leaving prompts that might whet my appetite (or, who knows, someone else's) and have the time to check out the daily theme at one or both communities to see if it sparks any ideas for you, I'd love to have you add them to your list/circle.

Jump-starts are good. And encouraging. :-)

Fandoms: SG-1 of course; Master & Commander; The Sentinel; maybe Atlantis.

Naturally I'll link in my journals to any prompts that I answer. Thank you for your attention!

Oooooh! Oooooh! Here via Latest Things -- hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd mention [community profile] writethisfanfic, which has been running a monthly WIP challenge -- the goal being to finish at least one WIP, of course. I think it'll be on hiatus in January but should be back in February. Might be useful?

(But I agree that comment fic is AMAZING -- I wouldn't have started writing fic w/o it or 750 Words.)

Oh, & there's [community profile] inkitout too, but it looks like you're doing the LJ version that inspired it. :)

Good luck regardless!!

Yeahhhhh, WTF (I love that comm abbreviation, heh) is sort of in a weird space. I'm one of the mods, & the person who started it wanted it to be encouraging for beginning fic writers, which is what I wanted too. Though it's sort of morphed slightly into just encouraging anyone to write fic, if they're blocked or whatever. I think the space can serve both groups (which overlap somewhat, anyway), but I appreciate that it's not quite clear right now what, exactly, the comm is doing. I do know that quite a few veteran fic writers are in the comm & have done the WIP challenge.

That's not to say that you might not want to join, anyway -- I just wanted to say that I understand your confusion, & somewhat share it, even though technically as a mod, I guess I shouldn't. ^^;;;

I'm on both communities and from time to time I'm posting prompts - but mostly for SG-1 and SGA - or crossovers of these two shows. *g* But "Master and Commander" sounds also very interesting.

I hope you'll be able to find plot bunnies! *bg*

I recently left a J/D prompt at ficpromptly which would be right up your alley. Just sayin'. *g*

I'm cheering you on mightily because more sidfic is a very, very good thing. :-)

Can't remember the date but it's in the lonely selection. "I'll show you a sunset if you stay with me til dawn" for the prompt, dawn.

Isn't that just a lovely prompt begging to be claimed. Hmmm?

So sue me. I'm old. 1975 seems recent to me.

i am totally happy to read your comment fic when you link to it. I LOVE THAT. but i am not in a brainspace to leave many prompts and I cannot follow a lot of multifandom prompt comms.

But i can totally read your fic and leave you FB wherever you post it, if you link to it.

Happy New Year to you and here's to much writing!!! And I love the Sentinel too!

...you do remember what happened the last time I gave you a commentfic prompt? *evil cackle*

If I had prompts/bunnies, I'd probably be writing them myself! I'm without much inspiration these days it seems. I do watch fic promtly at DW tho.

I think you can do 150K in a year easy. If I did 50k in a month (once!), then sure you can beat that in a year's time.

I have zero writing discipline LOL!

I'd love to see you do something a bit longer than your usual. A novelette maybe. Jack and Daniel of course. Maybe fixing Threads back in time or taking off from another episode that needed a slashier viewpoint/ending. :o)

Once the year gets started and all, want to word war with me for GYWO?

Why not join us at [community profile] fic_rush? That would give you one weekend every month, just there, dedicated to writing in a supportive community. I became one of the mods there last year, and it's been terrific. You don't have to attend for the entire 48 hours -- nobody does! -- but it's there for you to come and go and come back to.

At the moment, in fact, I'm wrapping up a mini-round I threw together at the last minute, because we'd never gotten round to doing a 'Rush in December.

Yeehaw!!

The poll for choosing a weekend for the January round is here: http://community.livejournal.com/fic_rush/19886.html

You'll probably want to join, or at least watch, both the [community profile] fic_rush and the [community profile] fic_rush_48 comms. I personally used to just watch the latter, and unwatch it after each round.
