'Leaving on a Jet Plane', J/D double drabble, rated PG
Post-snow shoveling and pre-supper, a fly-by quickie!
The day Daniel left Jack was the day Jack left for D.C. Jack’s departure had been planned for weeks; Daniel’s leaving him first had never been part of his plan.
LEAVING ON A JET PLANE
The day Daniel left Jack was the day Jack left for D.C. Jack’s departure had been planned for weeks; Daniel’s leaving him first had never been part of his plan.
“It’s over,” Daniel said as he walked out Jack’s door for the last time.
Half an hour later, Jack also walked out his door for the last time, climbed into a car driven by an airman and headed for Peterson and transport east. As he sat on the plane, eyes closed and fingers squeezing at the bridge of his nose, he wondered why his head ached when Daniel’s blow had struck about a foot further down.
When the plane landed, Jack turned his cell on and found a waiting message from Daniel. “I really hate goodbyes.”
Jack speed-dialed. “Is that was this was all about?”
“Only partly. Mostly to end things cleanly.”
Jack spotted his waiting car and driver as he disembarked. “Not over, Daniel.”
“Jack.”
“Never over, Daniel.”
This time, “Jack” was said in a completely different tone of voice.
Jack nodded to his driver. “Tell me.”
“Don’t be an ass.”
Jack was smiling as he climbed into the car. “Tell me.”
Daniel sighed. “It’s not over.”
“Damn right.”

What the idiot should have done was discuss with Jack how he was feeling!

Good thing Daniel couldn't rest easy and had to leave Jack a semi-apology.
