"In Vino Veritas", J/D drabble, rated PG

I almost titled this one "Deja Vu", because I think it may have happened before...

J/D, 100 words, rated PG.  Movie night at Jack's.

IN VINO VERITAS

Daniel was drunk. Floppy and sloppy. Laughter, heavy leaning. Before the movie was over, his hand was on Jack's thigh.

Jack turned off the TV. Daniel looked down at his hand and said, "Oh, hey." Jack just laughed and plopped his hand down on Daniel's knee, expecting a giggle. But Daniel turned towards him with unfocused eyes, and said, "Love you. Oh, shouldn't said that."

"Love you back," Jack said easily.

"'S'not same," Daniel slurred, and began to move away.

“All love is good.” Jack pulled Daniel close. “Right?”

“‘kay.” Daniel nestled contentedly.

He would forget by morning. Jack wouldn’t.

I love how Daniel is the one who says what he feels, but only Jack will feel the weight of what it means.

I wish I could figure out what Jack is thinking/feeling here. I'm actually considering trying my hand at a DVD commentary on this - so I can either figure it all out, or confuse everybody else equally!

I don't know. I'm going to have to examine this drabble in depth. I have a suspicion that Jack might have gotten Daniel drunk on purpose. *looks thoughtful*

You know, having read the DVD commentary (*loves*), I think that Daniel is the one in denial here. Jack knows he's in love with Daniel, and knows exactly what he wants from him, and is waiting, with as much patience as possible, for Daniel to make that connection when Daniel is sober.

Of course Daniel is aware of the same attraction, but he's afraid to admit it. Subconsciously, however, he does want to admit it, which is why he keeps putting himself into situations/taking opportunities to get drunk in Jack's presence.

I do hope things work out before Jack's nerves give out.... :)

The "DVD commentary" is basically taking the concept of the actors, writers, directors doing a commentary for the DVD release of a show where they explain certain choices, where ideas came from, inside jokes, etc.

Either an author can do commentary on their own work, or a reader can do it, giving first impressions and questions and their own conclusions.

I think I got that right! I've never done one before, lol.
