I don't even care if it's crappy, I'm just glad that I came up with a plan and stopped waffling after TWO YEARS.  *dances*

Any volunteers to beta?  1,350 words, PG, 1st person Hammond POV.  Probably late Season One.

George can't ignore the rumors any more.

I'm willing to beta, now or in the future -- and that isn't an offer I make to everyone.

Oh, and I don't beta in LOLSpeak. I can even edit in either American or British English. *G*

*snicker* I don't know if you ever looked at any of my own fic (not there's all that much). For one story, I had to wrap my brain around the Ulster dialect of English . . . which is even harder to shed than it is to don. They do have some lovely turns of phrase, though, as well as what might well be the highest obscenity incidence rate in the English-speaking world.

And then there's the entertainment factor of having the little voices in your head talking to you in different accents!

Yes, it's all MacGyver -- a handful of drabbles and two longer pieces. I spent years convinced that I could not write at all, and then confused the hell out of myself a year ago by starting anyway. My partner, who isn't into MacGyver at all but loves to read, enjoyed both pieces (though she just miiight be biased).

So far, it's mostly action-adventure and intrigue, set in the early seasons -- one story is set in 1985 Belfast, the other bridges the gap between the first and second seasons.

Huh – I thought I had already replied to this, but here it is, still sitting in my pending pile . . .

I was amazed to find myself writing in the first place, and even more surprised when I ended up writing action scenes, and completely astonished to find that I enjoyed doing it! Go figure. On the other hand, my first attempt at a sex scene (quite recently) was one of the hardest things I’ve ever tried. So *I* is impressed.

If you want to try a sampler that won’t require too much of a commitment, try the first chapter of “Phoenix Rising”: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4175481/1/Phoenix_Rising

It’s an “Opening Gambit” – an initial action sequence that’s capable of standing alone. I think you might enjoy it in particular for another reason . . . *g*

Yes, they were called Opening Gambits -- they stopped doing them after the first season, since it isn't really very good storytelling to burn up 5-10 minutes of screen time on an action sequence that's completely unrelated to the rest of the episode. On the other hand, one of the Opening Gambits included a long sequence of shirtless RDA, and that alone made it worthwhile, IMHO . . .

They also phased out the voice-overs over the next couple of seasons, which was another improvement. Funnily enough, though, both the Opening Gambits and the voice-overs turn out to have some value as prose narrative devices. Whoda thunk?
