They did it. THEY DID IT!

Boston Legal is over. 

Denny Crane and Alan Shore are married.

This show has always walked the line between crazy comedy and heart-breaking pathos.

And it ended with Denny asking Alan to marry him because Denny has Alzheimer's and wants a spouse to make medical decisions, wants someone he can confess to if he does something wrong who can't be forced to testify against him, wants someone to leave his money to without gift or estate taxes.

There've been sleepovers, dancing, declarations of love, hand-holding, vows of commitment.  They've been flamingos.  They've taken vacations together, they've told people they're married. 

And now they are.  *throws confetti*
 
I don't think any other show will ever give me this.

Too bad they're not having sex.  :-)

I have never watched the show, but I read a really awesome Yuletide fanfic that was absolutely glee-inducing. And at some point it was pointed out that they're not having sex, and I went, bzuh? Yes they are. Back there ... and I reread, and realized they weren't necessarily, EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING SEEMS TO POINT TO THEM BEING LOVERS/A COUPLE!

So, just based on what I know from that one fanfic, this ending makes me v. happy! (Except not so much the Alzheimer's. But still.)

Unfortunately I didn't see a lot of episodes since it always collides with my other shows here. But every now and then I caught a few. Geez, they were so obvious! ;)

It's the perfect gift to the viewer. Those two have been a couple almost since they met. BFF/old married couple/flamingos. :-)

It's an easy mistake to make, what with all the sleepovers and dancing and hugging. But they're both straight. No, really! :-D

(The Alzheimer's has been there since the beginning - it's part and parcel of how they bonded. And the final ep included Alan in front of the U.S. Supreme Court pleading for an experimental drug to help the man he loves. And he won! So hopefully they'll have many more good years together.)

It's the fifth and final series/season.

I think the flamingos were way back in Season One, when they dressed up for Halloween. :-D

I just read an article that describes Denny and Alan as "deranged and devoted." That's them all right!

It's really refreshing, come to think of it. I get so freaking tired of the typical plots, like what they are doing on SGA with Rodney and Keller. The boy doesn't always have to get the girl.

I applaud the writers who came up with this senario, and BRAVO for pulling it off on network TV and for thinking outside the box. Its about damn time.

If SG-1 ended the same way I think I would have hit the floor in complete, trembling fangirl happiness. Oh well! At least we have the fic.

My squee was momentarily dampened when I happened to catch William Shatner being interviewed on TV a little while ago. He was emphasizing the fact that the marriage was all about inheritance and power of attorney, and that there was nothing sexual about it. Kind of pissed me off that he felt the need to underline his/his character's heterosexuality.

But then the interviewer put up a picture of Shatner and Spader snogging, and Shatner pointed out that James was caressing his ear and that it looked pretty open-mouthed. LOL. I think it was all a setup! My squee is re-squeed!

I had missed the ep where they went to the dude ranch and so had just watched it before the final ep. The 'don't take this personally but I have an erection' nearly killed me!

And then for them to get married!! What a perfect ending and with so much promise. New drug for Denny, possible new law firm. (I did think changing the name of the firm was a little sad though.)

Oh, and I loved, loved, loved when the judge said, 'You can kiss the bride.' and they all converged on Shirley!
