( 'Twas the Night )
He’d loved Sha’re and gotten his heart ripped out. Jack understood how that went. At least the implication in Daniel’s words was that one day he might be ready to risk it all again for love. For Jack.
That day was suddenly, incredibly here. And Jack never saw it coming.
And when Daniel moved, he moved fast. Jack never even got a chance to unwrap his gift, because Daniel was somehow naked in his bed while Jack was still standing, stunned, with his jaw on the floor.
Didn’t take him long to catch up, though.
The sex was messy, and uncertain at times, and Daniel had started laughing at one point, which really threw Jack off his rhythm and he made sure Daniel heard about it, which just made him laugh harder. But at least Jack hadn’t done anything to embarrass himself too badly and he rated it a stunning success overall. He expected he was going to have a few interesting bruises in the morning, and he was really looking forward to inspecting Daniel for possible damage.
Kissing and cuddling with a man Daniel’s size required some adjustments, but Jack thought he’d carried it off pretty well. Daniel’s smiles and sighs pointed in that direction anyway. Not all of the sighing came from Daniel, of course.
They made a good team in the bedroom, too.
They were drifting off to sleep now, the lamp turned off and the moon softly shining in through the half open curtains; he thought Daniel had been out for a while, but Jack’s eyes kept opening to look just one more time at who was next to him, so close that they could breathe the same air molecules. It was getting harder each time, though, to lift heavy eyelids….
Clatter!
Daniel bolted upright in the bed.
Clatter!
Daniel tilted his face up to the ceiling and gaped. “Jack?”
Jack couldn’t help laughing. “No, Daniel, it’s not eight tiny reindeer.”
“What is it?” A shadow blocked the moon for a second, and Daniel’s head swiveled towards the window.
“And, no, that wasn’t a jolly old elf falling off the roof!”
“Well, what was it then?”
“Snow, Daniel.” Jack tugged until Daniel was lying down next to him again. “Frozen slabs of snow thawing out and breaking off and sliding down the roof.”
Jack saw Daniel’s eyes close and the corners of his mouth turn up, and was expecting a groan or a laugh, but Daniel surprised him. He opened his eyes and licked his lips, pushed the covers down to his knees and struck a seductive pose. “Guess we generated a lot of heat,” he said in an abnormally deep voice.
“You little vixen,” Jack said admiringly, raising up onto his elbow.
“If I’m Vixen, does that make you Prancer?”
“I do not prance.”
“Dancer?”
“Nobody’s ever accused me of being a dancer.”
“Comet, as in save-the-planet-from-one? Cupid?”
Jack just looked at him.
“Maybe not. Don’t make me choose between Donder and Blitzen.” Daniel reached up and cupped Jack’s face. “Because as far as I’m concerned, you’ve got the thunder and the lightning.” He paused, and then added, “Baby. That sounded like it needed a ‘Baby’ at the end.”
Several things about that comment surprised Jack. One, that Daniel said it without laughing. Two, that he was allowing Daniel to live. Three, that that word went straight to his crotch. Four, that there actually seemed to be some activity in the area of said crotch, which, hey, not too shabby for an old guy.
Jack decided the proper way to celebrate was by climbing on top of Daniel, whose eyes shone up at him, pale in the moonlight, and whose arms came around him. Jack nuzzled at Daniel’s jaw. Daniel stroked his back and asked, “Who did I leave out?”
“Busy,” Jack muttered.
“Dasher! You’re a very dashing sort of guy.” Jack licked Daniel’s neck, tasting the salt residue from their last round of sweaty exertion. It was all the more savory since Round Two was just waiting in the wings for the proper cue. “Especially in your dress uniform.”
Jack raised his head. “I’m hoping you like me even better out of my uniform?”
“Much better.” The hands on Jack’s back slid down to caress his butt. Jack returned his attention to Daniel’s delectable neck. Daniel shifted beneath him, spreading his legs a little further apart. “You know, your neighbors are going to wonder.”
“About?” Jack’s reply was muffled, but it had been unnecessary anyway. Daniel without a doubt had every intention of delivering the punchline that Jack just knew was coming.
“They’re going to step outside tomorrow and they’re going to look up at their snow-covered houses, and then they’re going to look over here and see your house, clean as a whistle, and they’re going to wonder.”
Jack gently sank his teeth into Daniel’s flesh, getting a gasp and a hand swiftly brought up to nestle in his hair.
“They might get suspicious. This is dangerous,” Daniel whispered, his breath hot on Jack’s forehead.
Jack inched his body forward, dragging his lips over Daniel’s skin until they were mouth-to-mouth. “I’ll take that chance.” And since they were just joking, he didn’t add, ‘you’re worth it’.
But then again, he didn't have to.
