a breath of fresh air

So, a little while ago I was sweeping up fallen ceiling plaster in the front bedroom closet when it suddenly struck me that inhaling plaster dust is probably not a good thing. So I was careful after that to hold my breath while plaster was moving around and to turn my head to take a breath. The closet's ten feet long, but that's still not much exposure time.

When I finished, I decided the sensible thing to do would be to sit out on the back porch, read for awhile, and get some clean air into my lungs.

Later I came back inside, sat down at the PC, and started going through my daily bookmarks. Hmm, wonder what this Special Weather Advisory is?

Oops! Have you not got a face-mask you could wear for dusty jobs? That would keep out the worst of the plaster, even if it wouldn't help with the smoke.

Nope! Never really came up before as something I might need one day. I might be able to find a scarf somewhere that would work. I still need to get the plaster mess into the trash, so there's more dust ahead!

The smoke should be about gone now, at least. But I'll need to bundle up to sit outside, since it was a big cold front that brought the smoke here in the first place.

sounds like something that would happen to me.

RE: needing a dust mask. if all else fails, pull the collar of your shirt up over your nose.

Ooh, that could work, with some of my blouses anyway. It would work with a t-shirt, with is really the perfect thing to wear for getting dusty anyway. I'll have to remember that.

The wind must be due to shift directions or something, because they said the smokiness would end tonight. *sighs* It's just incredible that the smoke is reaching from northeast Minnesota clear down to Illinois!
