'Future Perfect', sequel to 'Someday', rated PG-13

For juliabk and green_grrl , who requested fifteen years after/Jack's retirement after Someday (rated R, contains a non-graphic rape).

And ladies, you get 340 words!  :-)

FUTURE PERFECT

Daniel moved through the room with a tray, picking up dirty plates and glasses. Jack leaned in the doorway. “Leave it,” he said. “Let the caterers do it in the morning.”

 

Daniel sighed and put down his tray. “It’s going to look a lot worse tomorrow. That’s just the nature of the beast.”

 

Jack smiled. “Yeah, the mess doesn’t look so bad in the afterglow of a successful party, does it?” He moved towards Daniel, limping a little from having spent more time on his feet than usual.

 

Daniel turned shining eyes to him. “Everybody came. Did you realize that? Everybody we invited came!”

 

Jack’s lips quirked. “They weren’t all thrilled to be here.”

 

“No, but they came. And they behaved themselves. They really tried.”

 

“Senator Bennett must have been cringing inside the whole time,” Jack laughed.

 

“No! You’re wrong about that. I talked to him for nearly fifteen minutes. He turns out to be an Egyptology buff!”

 

Jack placed his hands on Daniel’s hips and pulled him closer. “Okay, so there were fifteen minutes that he wasn’t cringing.”

 

“This country has really changed,” Daniel said, stroking the lapel of Jack’s suit.

 

Jack captured his hand and gave it a squeeze. “You’ve changed more than one mind in D.C., Dr. Jackson. You’ve been working this town like an old pro ever since you came here three years ago.”

 

Daniel looked doubtful. “I think it was finding out about the Ori and the Goa’uld and the Replicators that changed minds. Changed priorities.”

 

Jack planted a kiss on the corner of Daniel’s mouth. “Changed laws.”

 

“We didn’t have to wait for you to retire after all,” Daniel said, sliding one hand through Jack’s silver hair.

 

“And that’s a good thing,” Jack murmured, nuzzling Daniel’s neck. “Because I wouldn’t have wanted anyone to throw my retirement party but my husband.”

 

“If you’d care to come upstairs with your husband, I have it on good authority that he’s been wanting to ravish you all evening.”

 

Jack raised his head. His eyes gleamed. “Race ya.”

Aaawww, so sweet *sniffle* I loved it, finally a proper happy ending for our boys. I'd love to have seen the wedding/civil ceremony. That and the guest list would have been interesting. :)

Well, the wedding was about three years before the retirement party, evidently, unless the boys were living in sin after Daniel came to Washington. ;-)

Jack was resplendent in his 3 star dress blues. Thor gave the bride away (aka Jack, lol). Teal'c was Daniel's best man. Sam stood up with Jack (not quite the way she'd once imagined it, but oh, well).

George, Hank, Walter and Siler all sat in the front row, and Walter cried like a baby, and kept saying how "beautiful" it was. George and Hank both looked like they'd rather be someplace else, but that was probably a reaction to Walter more than anything.

Daniel got adorably drunk at the reception and spent his wedding night passed out. But he made up for it in the morning, so Jack decided to cancel the divorce. ;-)

*sniffle* awww, can't wait to see the photos. I s'pose the bride almost wore a dress, with a bit of blues (sad attempt at a pun I know, but I couldn't resist).

Walter doesn't surprise me, hope he bought a clean hanky. :)So sweet that George and Hank went and supported their boys.

I'm not all that surprised that Daniel is a happy drunk, especially on his wedding night. I just wish that TPTB would get their head's round it and FILM the dang scene!!! Thay can do it pretty well, we saw it in "200"!!

This is *Jack*. The timing would have made all the difference, but I could see him waiting if it was a matter of even a few weeks for whatever reason. Jack has *always* struck me as the classic hopeless romantic while Daniel has always struck me as more of a seducer... when he wants to be and thinks the other person is worth the effort. Neither is good or bad, just different approaches.

Oh, yes, I can see Jack willing to wait and even happy about it. But under the circumstances, assuming they've both been celibate for 12 years...

I don't see Daniel going into this marriage until he was 100% confident that he was going to be able to joyously participate and contribute sexually. He's had a lot of time to heal, but it's never been put to the test. I'll bet before the ink was dry on the bill that rescinded DADT, Daniel (you're so right about him) was seducing an anxious, tender Jack. *sigh*

Hmmm. Celibacy, maybe - but I'd bet they'd burned up a few phone lines over the years before they were together. Hey, don't blame me. You're the one who started it, what with the homework Daniel'd been given and telling Jack about it (and also calling him in the middle of the night to say he'd gotten his assignment done very well).

I loved rereading the first fic so much (and was pleasantly surprised that I'd commented on it - otherwise I would have commented on it again).

Hmm. You could be right about the phone calls. Eventually Daniel's interest level would return to normal. I don't think it's something they would have done if they'd both still been in Colorado Springs, but after Jack had moved to D.C.?

I like the way you handled the fic and how Daniel bounced back gradually but with determination.

Hurting Daniel was horrible, but watching him fight his way back was inspiring. And then being prompted to do the sequel was just sheer pleasure!
