The two Charlies certainly wouldn't have been completely identical in experiences. I'd think it would be painful for Jack to say, "Remember when?" and get "No" for an answer. And this boy was shaped by his mother's death and his father's depression, so his character wouldn't be the same as Jack remembered. I'm sure some of that came out when the two of them had their chance to talk together.
