Diving into another Fandom
Mar. 5th, 2008 09:40 pmWhich is both punny and not entirely true. Since the fandom is Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and I have no intention of writing or reading fanfic. *g* But as I said in my introductory post over there, my mother had to drag me away kicking and screaming from the last 10 minutes of a Voyage episode in order to get me to church on time to be baptized (at age eleven), so this show is obviously very dear to my heart. *huggles Lee and Harry and Chip and Ski and Pat and Sparks and Sharkey* (and yes, slash fic exists for multiple permutations of the aforementioned ;-)
I'm re-watching the series weekly on American Life Network and recapturing the love, so I joined a community. Which is very small and not very active, and so I throw out an invitation to anyone who fondly remembers Lobster Men and Mermaids and Mad Scientists and Enemy Agents and Enigmatic Aliens and Giant Electric Jellyfish. The Flying Sub! The Reactor Room, the Circuitry Room, the Missile Room, the Observation Nose. The air ducts!!!
Prepare to dive.
Dive, all dive!

Date: Mar. 6th, 2008 06:46 am (UTC)I had to check out wiki, then the comm; those icons really brought me back. I love the one I saw of the Seaview bursting from the sea. (Continuum, anyone?)
Oddly enough, I just saw the original movie a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't seen the series for probably decades. I may have to break down and buy the DVDs.
Irwin Allen shows were every kids' dream!

Date: Mar. 6th, 2008 11:23 am (UTC)Lee and Ski and Chip definitely = OT3 and I used to love the radar sonar noise and eeeee, the flying sub! I so wanted a flying sub. I adored the way they were thrown from side to side a la Star Trek whenever a giant squid was within spitting distance. Oh, and Lee Crane's orange panstick make-up rivalled Doug and Tony's from Time Tunnel!
Ah the memories.
*hugs*

((I blew the pic WAY up, and I suppose it's him, just a bad shot))

Date: Mar. 6th, 2008 03:55 pm (UTC)And here is Sparks, who was so cute, especially when he was getting whacked over the head. It must have been every other week that they found Sparks slumped over unconscious and the radio sabotaged. *pets him*

Date: Mar. 6th, 2008 04:08 pm (UTC)::BTW, thanks for the email. I suspected we had similarities on the writing front. And with Five Things, I always have to leave it to the day before deadline, I need a deadline to produce anything, pretty much, even if it's a self-imposed one!::

Date: Mar. 6th, 2008 06:12 pm (UTC)I wish we could afford to up our number of channels and get that one again, but as it is...we may end up cutting back to the basic 4 local channels til I get a job.
