Here's a song I've never forgotten but never quite been able to remember. It reached #31 on the U.S. Top 40 chart back in 1974. I used to crank up the radio and sing along:

I'm a Train

So then I Google the singer/songwriter, Albert Hammond, and find out he was involved in a lot of other songs I've enjoyed. So here's a few more YouTube links:

My brother had the 45s for these first two goofy songs.  I've got 'em now. *g*

Little Arrows

Gimme Dat Ding

It's hard to believe that the same man wrote this gorgeous love song:

The Air That I Breathe

And his main claim to fame in the U.S. as a singer:

It Never Rains in Southern California

Hee. Aaaaand I've just gone back to my childhood. Little Arrows was played almost every week on a radio programme called Junior Choice. I knew it by heart; it has this earworm quality to it!
It Never Rains, well, I fell in love with that because, back then, everything (gasp) American was so exotic and wonderful to a girl growing up in the UK. I still smile when I hear it and think back to how it made me feel.
Lovely trip down Memory Lane, sid.
