WIPs (at least kinda sorta)

sidETA: I wrote this right before LJ crashed early this morning - YAY, LJ saved a draft for me!
I was working on two ficathon pieces and moving right along and having a grand old time, and then I got a stupid head cold and couldn't think straight for a week. (Did you know they've changed the formulas of Dayquil and Nyquil? Knocked me sideways, sheesh.) But I've felt much better for 3 or 4 days now, yet haven't gotten back to writing. This is me. I go in spurts. Sometimes I don't write for weeks. Usually that's right after finishing up a story of some length and not really feeling the need to be saying anything else for a while.
But right now I'm filled with ideas and I'm wasting a lot of time running scenarios in my head and NOT WRITING THEM DOWN.
So I decided to make a list, like other people on my flist have been doing lately and see if I can get some things crossed off, either as completed or abandoned.

UNDERWAY, TO AT LEAST SOME DEGREE
Working title: "Methinks". PG, 300 words, not touched in nearly TWO YEARS. Hammond POV that hit a stumbling block. I should just throw caution to the winds and finish this up, no matter how crappy, yes? I just need to flip a couple of coins, or go with my gut. Something. Completed and posted Oct. 8th
Working title: "Triple Threat". NC-17. 300 words (mainly notes), Daniel/jack. Not touched in nearly a year and a half. Incorporates requests from three readers, who probably have moved on to other fandoms by now. Why can't I get into the D/s headspace like I used to? (I think it's my lowered hormone levels, srsly.) This fic could be emotionally powerful or stupid or both... but if I manage to make the hot part hot will anyone care about the weak bits? *g*
Working title: "Rex II". 525 words, not touched in 8 months. A sequel to 'Lost and Found'. I've never quite figured out the point to it all, but I probably should write all the scenes that are stuck in my head and maybe a beta can figure out what the point is? It's a good chance to write a Season Ten team story (Cam and Vala are great in this) and Rex is so intriguing.
Working title: "New Heights, New Depths". NC-17, Daniel/jack. A new kink! 200 words, started last month. I've researched the hell out of this one, and I know I got turned on! Different in one major way from my other D/s stories, so it might be a good way to try to get back on good terms with these boys without feeling like I need to recapture old mojo. I know a lot of readers would enjoy it if I got back to my roots. (You know who you are.) ;-) ETA: 1/3 to 1/2 done and posted on Dreamwidth on April 30th. Have beta notes but haven't returned to finish it since.
Probable title: "Sunward I've Climbed". NC-17, or it will be as soon as I write the sex! 1,100 3,000 words as of 10/22. Lil Black Dress ficathon assignment - not due until December. I very much like what I've got here; I just need to write a sex scene with lots of emotional resonance and it's done. Easy peasy, right? Completed and sent to betas 10/22. Posted 12/13
Working Title: "P3X-let's not talk about it". 500 2100 (as of Oct. 8th) words, Gen, probably PG. For the Spook Me ficathon, so it's due in a few weeks. I need to work on this Right Now. It's all plotted out, I just need to take it slow and aim for creepy and chilling. I think I'm off to a good start. Beginning and ending completed. Completed 10/20..

jd_junkiewants to know what Jack and Daniel were doing before they rushed into the Gateroom (Daniel pulling on his jacket) at the start of Upgrades. i noticed Jack was tugging at his trousers, so I think I have a general idea.... *eg* Completed and posted Oct. 7th
Sequel to the recent 'In These Dreams', because everybody wants to meet Bjorn, right? And I realized I can use up a plot bunny in the process. Could be leading to a third story, or might wrap things up. I won't know until I get there. ETA: Companion drabble, Daniel POV, posted 12/10. Lots of new insights, yay! Done and done and done, etc. Eight chapters! :-)
A very, very old bunny with a working title of "A Hundred Shades of Gray", so I guess you can figure out what two episode arc is being covered. One by one I eliminate the oldest ideas from my Story Ideas folder as I realize how lame they are, but this one sticks around. I hope to get it written some day. It used to have a really clever opening (in my head), but kindly beta readers have made me a better writer and I could never write it that way now! Damn it. LOL. ETA: very helpful IM chat withdragojustine on 11/19. Lots of good insights. More yay!

dragojustine on 11/19. Lots of good insights. More yay! Various sequels are always in the realm of possiblity. I make a note whenever one is requested that makes sense to me. Even if I thought the story was complete... I've been proven wrong quite a few times. :-) 'Matinee/Idyll', 'Ob-La-Di' and 'Climbing High Into the Sun' are the most recent requests.

Date: Oct. 5th, 2008 01:24 am (UTC)actually, that would be a cool device to mess with and I realized that after I became enamoured of the last lines I had written. I lacked the desire to go back and reincorporate other subtle baseball references.
so do you like to mess with words purely for the pleasure of seeing how you can contort an idea while still feeding a plot/character line or are you all about the actual plot (and occasionally, delightful lack-thereof) and character development?

I suspect I mess and contort on occasion, because words are FUN. But I can't actually think of examples. *scratches head* I suppose I'm likely to do it when I'm writing Five Thingses.

And I have more mentally mapped out for the ending of the Spook Me fic, so that's good, anyway.
Time for some breakfast, and after that hopefully I'll feel like doing some writing. :-)
