Five New Year’s Resolutions made on Atlantis - INTERACTIVE!

Five things that happened when the cameras suddenly stopped working at the SGC

I'll post this last one right here, because I'm so gosh-darn pleased with it.  :-)

Five emails General O'Neill sends to Colonel Carter in the earth-to-Atlantis databurst

How’s it going? You’re missed here. Vala apparently sends her love (which would kinda scare me if I were you. Which I am not.) I’m sure you’re doing a great job. When in doubt, just ask yourself: What would General O’Neill do? And then, toot sweet, do the opposite. You’ll be fine. I have faith. Also? Chewing gum stuck to the sole of my shiny shoe. Am circulating memo throughout the Pentagon regarding proper disposal of any and all gum and gum-like items.

Springtime in Washington. Cherry blossoms, etc., and so forth. With a dandy cold wind off the Potomac which will freeze your tushie. My tushie, that is. Not yours. Don’t think the breeze will carry that far, for science-y reasons which I can just hear you explaining to me. I kinda miss that.

Mitchell’s fine, don’t worry. That boy is a heckuva punching bag, though. I think he’s taken over Daniel’s role on SG-1 when it comes to the bad luck/trouble magnet/damsel-in-distress bit. P.S. Clearly I know that you know that my life depends on your never repeating any of the previous to a certain anthro/archaeo/pissy Doctor who shall remain nameless. P.P.S. and don’t go telling Mitchell I said that, either. They’re entirely capable of ganging up on me. And Teal’c would just laugh. Well, not ‘laugh’ per se, obviously. You catch the gist of my drift.

Thank you profusely and profoundly for the memento of my being born, lo these many, many, many years ago. You’re obviously being paid too much. What are the shipping costs from Amazon.peg? Seriously, though, it’s lovely and thoughtful, and I almost have it trained to fetch my post-prandial snifter. Goals are important. Sanity, and sensibility, overrated. As Jane Austen might have said. Or not.

Yuletide-type greetings and pine-scented wishes! Will be hanging my stocking at the cabin, alongside those of Dr. Jackson and Ms. Mal Doran. Mr. Col. Mitchell is waffling, but we will break him down. Snowshoes and hot toddies… not at the same time, to be sure. Your charming self and the contents of your charming wallet will be sorely missed at any poker games that spring up by mere happenchance. (Oh, yes, Teal’c still resists the pull of the cabin. Even with the December dearth of mosquitoes. I suppose there is some attraction in the proposition of bouncing his granddaughter on his knee, so I will overlook the slight to my hospitality. You’re excused, as well. Maybe next Yule?)

Oh, wow, what a fabulous O'Neill voice. This feels exactly the way Jack would have written. (And, funny, it is kind of how RDA writes.) Particularly love the fourth paragraph: "lo these many, many, many years ago," "Amazon.peg," "fetch my post-prandial snifter," "Sanity, and sensibility, overrated. As Jane Austen might have said. Or not." Ha, ha! Each sentence keeps topping the previous one. Fabulous piece, and thanks for posting it outside the cut for us fearful, OTPish types. :-)

OMG this is hilariously adorable!!! For some reason "Mr. Col. Mitchell" is cracking me up!

(Too bad Teal'c can't come to the cabin to keep Ms. Mal Doran distracted while Jack sneaks off with Daniel. But I'll forgive him for his grandbaby, too. ;-)

Totally adorable! And wonderful Jack voice. You've managed to capture his deliberate way-beyond-over-the-topness without it sounding lame or silly. When he's in this mood, this is how he should sound. I really love that. And I love how it must have made Carter smile, because she deserves it and could use it, and a Carter smile is a thing of beauty.

Yes, you made me look up prandial! :o) Perfect Jack voice and I can see Sam snickering over each one. Adore the idea of Teal'c with a granddaughter! He'd be such a sap for her. You rock.

"you catch the gist of my drift" oh yeah!

That is well-channelled RDA - no wonder it sounds / reads like Jack.

*waits patiently for SG1 Movie 3*

Oh, and thank you!

Oh, this was just lovely, and so very Jack. It made me miss him.

For some reason I read them all as one long email (perhaps thinking they were all sent at once in the databurst? not sure if that is correct thinking or not..) and it didn't even phase me that they were all different times of year. It was all just so wonderfully Jack's voice and humor, and Yay! and Awww, at the same time.

Thanks for this, because I'm having a sad day today (I have a sick doggie), and this was a sweet moment.

heh. SO sorry.

I've read the Jack email one about 5 times... and only just realised that I didn't comment. :( Ooops

I LOVE your Jack-voice. Always. :D It's so well-realised in these "emails".

However... I feel awful about this... but I've been agonising over it. I don't know whether you saw my recent "pet peeve" rant on tout de suite (not actually inspired by THIS, actually, but by a number of other fics where I've seen it in narrative - where there is no excuse for a misspelling IMO)...

So I have to ask - did Jack write "toot sweet" meaning it kind of ironically or do you really think that he would not know the French origins of the phrase? (You see, personally, I think Jack WOULD know how to spell it, even if he says it as "toot sweet". IMO, at worst he might think it was written "toute suite". He MIGHT write "toot sweet" as a joke, but then I think he'd use speech marks or something, you know? So, you see it's bugging me. Irony or a difference in our views of Jack?

Sorry. Still love these emails - it's just been GETTING to me. Do you know how it is when you don't know how to take/read something and it bugs you and BUGS you?

So what's worse, Sid? The shock of writing gen, or the shock of getting gen recced (http://community.livejournal.com/stargateficrec/1244888.html)? ;)

Absolutely adored this ficlet! This is exactly how I imagine Jack writes his e-mails - the voice is perfect :)
It's all so good, as well;
The "chewing-gum" memo, Jack's tushie, his referencing Daniel as anthro/archaeo/pissy Doctor, Amazon.peg, his whole Jane Austen drop and everything - all like sparkling gems in a treasure chest of a fic.
Thank you!

This is perfect Jack-voice and RDA-voice! I love it all so much.

So many great phrases, but "Snowshoes and hot toddies… not at the same time, to be sure." leaves me picturing Jack doing just that.

Thank you!
