My fannish history UNCOVERED
May. 1st, 2010 03:12 pmI was digging through some 3-ring binders of my father's the other day, emptying and recycling the contents, when suddenly I came across one that had my name written in it, and the name of my junior high school. Based on the handwriting, I took myself to have been in the 7th grade.
I closed it up and was turning it over in my hands, musing, and I suddenly realized there was WRITING on it. Very, very faint ancient writing on the back cover!
The first words I made out (the biggest) were I LOVE UNCLE. Oh, yes, I started loving The Man from U.N.C.L.E. in grade school, so no surprise that I was expressing that love.
And then I made out the smaller letters written above that: I Love Star Trek. The September I started 7th grade was the September Star Trek premiered.
Now I had the clue to help me decipher the smallest writing, scattered all over the back cover: Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, DeForest Kelley, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy... and the one I couldn't read had to be Doctor McCoy.
I turned the binder over and took a closer look at the front cover.
A list of TV show titles, each with some sort of comment beside it. After further study, I have managed to decipher the list in its entirety:
Voyage, Bleep (The opening credits to Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea began with submarine-y type bleeps)
FBI, da duh da duhhhhh (The F.B.I. theme music)
Saint, stick figure with halo
Rat Patrol, swastika (WHAT a relief this was, to figure out why I had drawn a swastika on my junior high school binder!)
Felony Squad, Briggs (Had to Google Felony Squad to determine that, yes, the cute guy was named Jim Briggs)
Fugitive, Jughead ("Jughead" was the nickname my brother and I had for Lt. Gerard, lol)
I Spy, Wow man
Star Trek, Way out
T.H.E. Cat, Purrrrfect
Avengers, cool
Mission: Impossible, neato

What can I say? *shrugs and looks adorable*

Neato, huh?

(And why would you cover that face, anyway?) Also, I hear people were always asking Greg Morris to fix stuff, and he was like, "That's Barney. In real life, I'm a klutz!"

Date: Jun. 29th, 2010 05:30 pm (UTC)I drew a charm bracelett representing my favorite shows, crossovers and my mary-sue ish connections. It was only years later that I learned the terms for the last 2. And even though I labled the charm drawing during college I was still quite cryptic.
IMF - Dad would let me sneak past my Sunday night bedtime if I could get him interested in what plot Phelps had come up with that week - otherwise try listening from the next room and try figuring out whats happening.
Also thank you for the JD I have enjoyed over the years.

Date: Jun. 30th, 2010 03:12 am (UTC)I just watched an episode of It Takes a Thief this weekend! That was another show I absolutely loved.
I'm glad you've enjoyed my J/D offerings, and I hope my RL will settle down soon and allow me to write some more. Thank you so much for telling me!
