sidThis was originally posted back in February, but I buried/mis-advertised the link. The theme was Frustrations, and paian left this prompt: Stargate Universe, Jack O'Neill, bureaucracy.

Hey, Daniel,
Washington is awash in a ton of red tape. Worse, yea, far worse than the good ol’ SGC ever dreamed of being on its worst day (of which there were more than a tad.) And yet, conversely and au contraire-ily, I was right about being able to get more done here. In spite of the endless, deadly dull, interminable, dry and soul-crushing meetings, briefings, conferences, working lunches et cetera in aeternum. Time flies (not) when you’re having fun (not).
Some days I think fun doesn’t exist out here in the land of the Pentagon and the home of the bureaucracy. But there is pleasure to be had, and found, in striking the occasional clever and resourceful blow for common sense and a decent amount of patience and a judicious balance between/amongst us and them, and the other them (with us being Our Great Nation and them being all the other people wandering the face of this planet, and the other them being the people Out There that came from Here plus our allies, id est all the non-bugs, -snakes, and –next Big Bad which we all know is coming, sure as shootin’.)
But enough about my anguish. You all packed yet? I ask laughingly, you understand. Give me a call before you depart for the next Galaxy, okay?

I'm tempted to blame this on you, somehow. Is that at all realistic?
You might make a note to requisition a bunch more Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and early Germanic experts, as well as literature majors who are up on the Arthurian canons.
And I'll make sure I bring you one of those cute coffee mugs that say "Mind the Gap".
Red tape? You'll cut it. Or make it into bunting. I miss you. Yeah, close your mouth now; flies are getting out. But I know you're doing what's best. Or at least what's right.
