Ten unconnected drabbles written for the
jd_ficathon Prompt-a-Thon, which is running through the end of the month. The list of prompts is here. There's still time to pick a prompt or two!
A big thank you to Beth (
lolmac) for the title suggestions! I grabbed a bunch of them, and was inspired by others. *smooches*
Prompts: Pink, Jacuzzi, tease, tongue, hotel, glasses
Pink and Blue
The hotel Jacuzzi was pink. That's what you got when you booked the bridal suite. Daniel wasn't complaining, so Jack wasn't about to. He was too busy enjoying the heat, the pounding, soothing jets of water, and the feel of Daniel's tongue in his mouth. When Daniel pulled away, Jack immersed himself in the blue of his eyes, always vivid when his glasses were off. He felt Daniel's fingers ghost along the outline of his cock, teasing, arousing.
"Daniel." Jack's fingers gripped in return. He wasn't a tease.
Daniel bared his teeth. "Take it to the bedroom?"
"Yes." Oh, yes.
Prompt: a walk in the moonlight
Home Sweet Homeland
A warm spring night in Maryland. A quiet, dark suburban street. The hour is late; nearly everyone who lives here is long asleep. A rich scent of lilacs perfumes the rain-washed air. It's a world of fresh, living green, gone gray in the moonlight that makes the wet grass sparkle. Someone's cat leisurely crosses the street up ahead. Predictably, a dog, somewhere nearby, reacts. Or maybe it's reacting to the presence of the two men who aren't ready to sleep, who walk along silently, hand-in-hand, through their Maryland neighborhood, on this green and living world that they've saved again today.
Prompt: Gay marriage is legal in Washington D.C. and Minnesota. Jack lives in Washington D.C. and his cabin is in Minnesota. Take it from there.
Save the Date
"Jack, why is our bedroom full of flowers?"
"Thought it would be romantic."
"We've been living together for three years. You do get, don't you, that I don't need to be seduced?"
"Got that the first time you woke me up with a blow job."
Daniel crinkled his nose. "So what's up?"
Jack nudged him. "What say we get hitched?"
Daniel blinked. "Going all out with the romance."
"And?"
"Why now? Gay marriage has been legal in D.C. since I moved here."
"Well." Jack flushed. "August 1st it's legal in Minnesota."
Daniel squeezed his arm. "Let me grab my calendar."
Prompts: Spring Cleaning; The spring Jack negotiated Daniel's move to Washington
Spring Forward
Jack hadn't realized how many back issues of National Geographic he had. The Air Force had simply packed up everything at the old house that wasn't nailed down and moved it to D.C. Jack was no hoarder, but he could see how people could get started down that particular slippery slope. There was just something about having a collection, no matter what it was. Well, there were lots of different places to offload them. County jail, senior center, local schools. Free up a bunch of shelf and storage space. For Daniel's stuff. Jack grinned as he felt his pulse quicken.
Prompt: April showers bring May flowers
Looking for a Bluebird
"I am missing the desert," Daniel groused.
"Not much snow this year. Soil needs the rain." Jack stroked Daniel's bare arm. "You afraid of melting?"
"It just would be nice to actually spend some time in the sunshine one of these weekends."
"This from the man who forgot his sunblock on P4-whatever-it-was."
"Not the same."
"No," Jack agreed, rolling up onto his elbow. "When did you become Outdoors Boy?"
Daniel sighed. "I guess I'm just ready for the May flowers, and fuck all this rain."
Jack groped Daniel. "Happy to fuck you until it stops."
Daniel's grin was pure sunshine.
Prompts: the first flower of spring; rebirth
Colorado Springs Eternal
"Another?"
"I think you lied about my liking beer," Daniel replied, accepting the bottle anyway.
"Moi?"
'Toi' sprang to Daniel's lips, but he bit it back. Probably it was the right choice, though. Jack and formality seemed incongruous, and they must have been close. Before. He felt at home here on Jack's deck.
A speck of color caught his eye. He leaned over the railing. "Daffodil?"
"First flower of spring."
The beer fell from Daniel's hand. "You said that last year." My arms were wrapped around you. We'd just…
Jack's hand gripped his elbow.
Jack's eyes were filled with hope.
Prompt: amtdi--because it's spring
Wronging a Rite
"It's their spring planting season, Jack."
"So they want me to plant my seed in your ass?"
Carter, already blushing, grimaced and walked to the other end of the room. Teal'c lifted his chin and followed her.
"Why not Carter?" Jack asked. "Not that I…but wouldn't it be more…?"
"Traditional, logical?"
Jack spread his hands.
"I don't have enough insight into their culture to answer that one for you. Sorry."
"No, you're not."
"No, I'm not."
Jack made a face.
"I promise I'll do you when we get home. It won't kill you to top for once."
Jack sighed. "Okay."
Prompt: we're not getting any younger
In Poetry, a Motion
"To quote Robert Herrick…"
"'Gather ye rosebuds'?" Daniel looked astonished.
"I'm certainly not getting any younger."
"I know that. I didn't know you knew who Herrick was."
"I read, Daniel."
"I've seen the glasses. Cute."
"Yeah?"
"Definitely. 'And while ye may, go marry'?"
"What, now?"
"Part of the poem? 'Be not coy', Jack. Unless you think your 'race be run'?"
"Still racing!" Jack protested.
Daniel smiled broadly. "Yeah."
Jack cleared his throat. "Did you just propose?"
"You don't miss a thing," Daniel said in mock admiration.
"I get the important stuff," Jack said as he pulled Daniel into his arms.
Prompt: Daylight savings time (and other timely perils of gate travel)
There's a Time and a Place
Jack looked at his watch.
"I'm sure Daniel won't be much longer getting geared up, sir," Carter said. "He just forgot about daylight savings and didn't realize it was an hour later."
Jack's mouth twitched. He looked at the Stargate, and glanced over his shoulder at the technician standing by. The corner of his eye registered Daniel rushing into the Gateroom.
"Sorry."
"Dial 'er up," Jack said. More quietly he added, "I reset your clocks myself, Daniel."
"Should I have told the truth? That I was so fucked out that I couldn't move?"
Jack cleared his throat. Well, maybe not.
Prompt: Nosy neighbors
Observation of Mating Rituals
"Daniel, we're being watched."
"Every widow, divorcee and spinster in the neighborhood is wondering just who this hunk is who's helping me with my yardwork."
"Should I take off my shirt?"
"They'll come climbing over the fence."
"They don't climb over for you?"
"Not any more."
"You discouraged them?"
"My lack of interest discouraged them."
"Still…Sha're?"
"Nooo. No, that's…ancient history."
"You'd be the one to know."
"That's so funny."
"I do my best. So…"
"No, there isn't anyone new in my life."
"Anyone old?"
"Say, someone your age?"
And then they proceeded to really give the neighbors something to watch.

Date: Jun. 27th, 2013 02:07 am (UTC)How do you DO THIS IN SO FEW WORDS? I BOW BEFORE YOU.
The one where Daniel suddenly remembers the daffodil reference made tears come to my eyes.
I also loved the one where Daniel made the first move, and the one where Daniel insists it won't kill Jack to top.
YOU ROCK.

Date: Jun. 27th, 2013 09:47 pm (UTC)A few of the nosy neighbors lost interest when they realized Jack would definitely not be interested in meeting them! And the rest discovered the joys of slash. ;-)

Date: Jun. 27th, 2013 03:31 pm (UTC)"Spring Forward" felt very Jack to me. And I really liked the trope-inversion in the amtdi.
