I think it's Established Relationship but the move feels like a breakup even though they both know it's not. Long distance relationships are tough to maintain. Secret long distance relationships add just that much more heartache. Oh, and there's the little "Daniel moving to the Pegasus Galaxy" wrinkle to make matters worse.
I think to myself, would Daniel be there packing if they'd broken up? Maybe, if they were both being REALLY adult about it all.
And First Time could factor in to all those "things they weren't saying". Things they'd avoided expressing up until then.
The one thing that speaks against an ER to me is that they should have already had the H/C sex. Unless...oh yeah...they were both trying to hide how miserable they were from each other and deny it to themselves. Oh, the tension! And Daniel breaks first. :-)
Nothing like packing boxes and seeing familiar comfortable surroundings go empty and sterile with packing to bring home the reality of the situation. I think your guys had been deluding themselves until they got down to it and realized the time was coming very quickly when they wouldn't be a few floors or a few miles apart.
It just didn't have a first time feel to it. And if it was breakup/makeup, I think that would have happened before Daniel would have been helping him pack.
Oh, on the things they hadn't expressed... it may well be that it wasn't until they were physically separating that the true depth of their relationship came through. It may be that they were going through an 'OMG, I thought we were just friends who were also lovers, but I don't know if I can do this without him there' epiphany.
That sounds like such a guy thing, but a woman could have an epiphany like that, too.
And it took them a few hours to figure it out, because I think they were too busy being resentful: Daniel resented Jack for leaving, and Jack resented the universe for making him leave.
They'll be fine though, with the help of some dandy Asgard devices. ;-)
Yeah, but I think it's more of a guy thing. Not so much that men are emotionally stunted by nature, but let's face it, our socialization models suck. ;-)
Asgard devices? Do you have *plans*, m'dear????
(And I now have a *wholly* inappropriate image of Thor and Heimdal and what they do on their days off... and with what *toys*. *shudder*)
Ah... I think you should play in that pond a bit. ;-)
(Oh, I *know*! Talk about *kink*! And to think Heimdal *likes* it! Very, very weird. But I guess it's no weirder than what they get up to with the yellow food cubes, the toaster and the Unas. Aliens. Whacha gonna do?)
Yeah, the long distance relationship would be fun to play with. Perhaps one day. Right now I'm working on my Remix project (even though it isn't due until July 1st, lol). I made good progress today - I'm over the minimum word limit, so that's a relief.
And I hereby resolve to go sign up for the J/D ficathon pronto. Really. Right now. Watch me go.
I got very lucky last year, and the prompt immediately gave birth to an idea. Can I get that lucky twice? *quivers*
I'll just have to be sure to delineate clearly what I won't write. For example, anything with a plot, lol. Well - action/adventure. Uh-uh. Not me. I could struggle and try, but it would end up being fairly crappy.
Now I'm trying to decide what to request. :-) P0rn? UST? Unicorns?
Too late! You should have spoken up sooner. Damn! I went with Jack's cabin, First Time. :-)
Someone did request unicorns, though, so that must be why it popped into my head.
I'm so happy with my Remix assignment! I'm very close to being done - a month and a half early! Then back to my WIPs and bunnies. Time to post another poll. ;-)
Ah, okay, I misunderstood. Right, all the sign-ups are screened. I just begged, please don't match me with someone who writes nothing but Jack/Sam. :-P
It was something I wanted to try as a writer, but I can't say I'm looking forward to one of my stories being remixed. I'm curious of course! Hopefully I won't find it an unpleasant experience. If I do, I'll have learned my lesson. :-)
Those are the two things I'd hate. :-) Getting stuck having to do something with a crap ship fic (even if it's well written - it would be crap because of the content) and then having to watch something happen to one of mine. ;-)
You get to choose from your assignee's entire oeuvre, so that's a plus. I can't imagine a het or gen writer getting stuck with somebody who writes nothing but NC-17 slash! One woman's pleasure is another woman's squick. Hee!
True. Lots of people have at least one gen out there somewhere. ;-) And you're right, it could be as tough for a het writer to have to face slash as the reverse.
