When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.
"Calm down, Colonel!"
“Jack will come,” Rex says with finality.
“Need anything?” Jack really should have cleared his throat first; that could have come out better.
"There is nothing improper going on between me and Daniel!"
"I believe you, Colonel," I say, beginning to smile with relief. But he's not finished.
"It's crap!" he says tensely.
"Son..." He shoots to his feet and runs his hand through his hair with frustrated anger.
"The man is married for Christ's sake! Where the hell do people come up with garbage like this? He's as straight as they come!"
“It’s just…nobody gets to touch you. Nobody’s allowed to hurt you. I want to kill them because they intruded into our life. They took what’s mine, what you give to me. Only me. They should all die, and I’m a sick, sick bastard and I can’t help it, Jack, I can’t help myself.”
“My dear friend is not with you?”
“General O’Neill? Jack?”
“Jack,” Rex says, smiling with pleasure at the sound of the name. “Bring Jack to me. I would speak with him.”
“Whoa,” Cam objects. “That’s not the way it works. When you give us Jackson back, then we’ll talk.”
Rex looks at Sam. “Um, well, without Daniel he can’t talk to us, is that right?”
Much later, when John opened his door, he still looked like a man who was about to scream. “What part of ‘Do Not Disturb’ don’t you get?”
“Huh?” Rodney said intelligently, making a show of looking for a sign that he’d somehow missed.
“I said I wanted to have some time to myself,” John growled. But he stepped back and let Rodney into the room all the same.
“When did you say that, hmm? After I left?”
“I told Elizabeth to pass the word.” John sat down on the foot of his bed, and Rodney immediately got the eerie impression that he’d been sitting that exact way for hours.
“Huh. Guess my comm link must be down.” Rodney tapped his ear bud while frowning suspiciously.
“You’re full of it, McKay.”
Rodney crossed in front of John and sat down beside him. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
General Hammond was speaking, to him, and Daniel listened to the gentle, paternal tones and took in the underlying meaning and nodded his head in answer, in thanks. In a daze. Then they were dismissed, and filing out into the briefing room.
“I’ve got sick people to get back to,” Janet said, and with a lingering pat on his arm she was gone.
“Are you heading home, Daniel?” Sam asked gingerly.
“Oh, yes,” he answered. As fast as possible.

Date: Aug. 3rd, 2007 12:33 pm (UTC)Although I have the sneaking suspicion that I managed to miss 'Lost and Found' coz i don't remember a story with a alien/spirit/god called Rex... I guess that's what happens when RL stops you checking LJ for chunks of time!
I shall go find it tonight
