(and it's all unimportant news, trust me; I'm just venting and allowing you all to laugh at me)
I've been on a silly fannish rollercoaster!
Backstory: I have Seasons 1-7 of SG-1 on DVD, and 8-10 on VHS. Plus Atlantis on VHS. Except: I somehow missed taping The Quest II and The Return II. So the first good news is that those eps were airing in syndication this morning from midnight to 2 am.
Bad news decision: Out of 3 VCRs to choose from, I picked the one that's developed the occasional habit of chewing tapes up and spitting them out, so to speak.
Good news: Everything taped okay before I went to bed and I could hear the machine marking the commercials.
Bad news: I look at the VCR this morning, and the cassette has popped out, which lately has meant that it ejected for some unknown reason with the tape still wound around the heads of the VCR. In which case, buh-bye, tape - a snip of the scissors and the whole thing comes out easily and goes into the trash.
*Sid goes away and sulks, hating herself and her poor decision making processes and telling herself she really needs to get a life if she is going to let things like this upset her*
Good news: When I finally decided to deal with the debacle, and tugged gently on the cassette, it came out INTACT! The reason it had popped out was because the new recordings FILLED IT to the very end, and so it automatically rewound and ejected. SOP, but it never occurred to me, because I was too busy kicking myself.
Good news, bad news: I now have Quest II. But for some reason, the episode of Atlantis that aired was 3x09 Phantoms instead of 3x11 Return II.

I have sent an email to the broadcast station requesting clarification.
