I thought my waterbed was falling apart at first. It was making creaking noises and vibrating. Then I woke up a little bit more and realized it was an earthquake. About 10 seconds later I was back asleep. :-)
I think the first earthquake I ever felt was when I was visiting my grandparents, over near Buffalo NY. That was probably in the late 1960's.
Eeek! We had an earthquake a month or so ago. Quite big by British standards. It woke me at 1am. I was convinced the roof was falling in. Ruined a perfectly good night's sleep! PS Just sent you an email with fic attached. Can now read other stuff without feeling guilty. :-)
We get them all too often in the Pacific NW. Last big one some of my cabinets doors opened (from the heavy weight behind them) and I lost all my vases and lots of booze. (The latter landing on my poor goldfish's bowl.) :( I have a big fear of quakes, ever since the first one I was in at age six.
LOL! It's been on the news up here and online in spite of the pope. Don't worry...you're in the middle of a good sized land mass. Most that will happen is maybe a little molten lava. Here, the entire peninsula I'm on could sink into the sea. I leave you all my fics in my will, btw. :o)
All is steady at the moment. Apparently there have been dozens of aftershocks, but only one strong enough to really be felt this far away from the epicenter.
