I thought my waterbed was falling apart at first. It was making creaking noises and vibrating. Then I woke up a little bit more and realized it was an earthquake. About 10 seconds later I was back asleep. :-)
I think the first earthquake I ever felt was when I was visiting my grandparents, over near Buffalo NY. That was probably in the late 1960's.
